For a moment, he honestly didn't think that she was going to stop, she was probably just going to leave him in the dirt but that didn't turn out to be the case. At least she was listening, Niamh needed to remain calm anyways, if she wasn't thinking straight than that meant that she could end up on that list as well. Hunts couldn't get emotional, when they did, they got messy and it left evidence and scaring behind. Knox only had one incident and that had been his first. Honestly, he had thought war had been bad enough, but killing his own sister well, that was a big welcome to the real world that he never saw coming and in many ways, he never forgot it either.
"Your daughter's sake?" he asked now, repeating the words as if he hadn't even heard her correctly the first time. Even at her words though, Knox still felt rather relaxed. He wasn't like other people and even animals that feed off of other people's energy, and in many ways, he was thankful for that. Everything was probably chaotic enough as it is in Niamh's mind without him needed to add to the stress. By the sounds of it though, handing her that list might not have been the best thing. Knox knew he shouldn't judge though, if his daughter's name had been on that list, he would probably be in the same position, actually, he might be in a worse position because when Knox thought about it, there was nobody else he really cared about other than his daughter and her god parents...sure, there was Angus, but he could take care of himself.
Niamh had probably though the same thing about whoever's name she found on that list though, so he didn't bother with his commentary and simply waited for her to continue to speak. And then came the story, so this guy was her baby daddy, "What kind of fake name is Fenton O'Connell?" he mused to himself, it sounded like a douchebag name. But hey, who was he to judge, people liked to use names from old metal bands as well. He almost didn't hear her say that that she wanted to go now, "Wait, now?" he asked. Well, so much for keeping a steady head about things. Knox felt a frown settle on his lips as he turned his head and glanced out now towards the town.
They really were in the middle of no where with the sun setting down, it would be dark soon. He hated hunting in the dark, he hated hunting deer in the dark and that was something normal. A Wendigo in the dark with a new partner, well...but Knox supposed he wouldn't have a choice in the matter. He wasn't going to let Niamh run off by herself though, he had a lot more honor than that. Technically, they already had everything needed, at least he did. There was something unsettling about the whole thing though, he had a bad feeling about this. Animals adapted to change, no doubt the supernatural were the same, "Right...I guess I'll follow you in my truck." But Knox then glanced back at her, "Hey...if the situation isn't good...are you going to be able to do what you have to?"

“A really stupid one but unique enough to stand out” she explained but she didn't know why she was defending Kevin's choice in fake names, she really didn't give a damn. She shook her head from the thought and just tried not to think too hard on it.
She hated to think it but she wondered if Lucy would have been better off without Kevin around, without the possibility of him just showing up. She knew her daughter had this fantasy wish that her Dad would show up one day. Every year on her birthday she made the same wish, that if she was good enough he would come and find her. Niamh didn't take it personally she knew it was just a little girls hopes. Every year she watched her daughter be disappointed by the one thing she wanted. It was the reason she had jumped so quickly to try and help him, it felt like killing her daughters dream otherwise, something she never wanted to do.
“Of course I can” she was a little offended by the question but she also knew that saying it and doing it were two different things. Could she look someone in the eye and put them out of their misery especially if she had once cared about them? She hoped she wasn't just being too confident on her own abilities. She took a moment to gather her thoughts and urgency was starting to fade. Knox was making valid points.
As the calm settled over her now she rested her forehead against the door of her truck and just took a breath. Fuck she hated this, hunts she could handle but when things got personal it just got under her skin. She couldn't bare to see lucky hurt by this and that was her biggest fear. Niamh could recover from anything that came her way, but a seven year old little girl was still impresisonable, she still believed in Santa Claus for christ sake. “No” she said simply when he said he would follow her. This was crazy it was almost completely dark and everyone knew that Wendigos moved in the night and they moved faster and more efficiently. They thrived on darkness and heading in there now was like walking in with targets on their back, neither of them would be home to see their daughters again.
“No... this is mad” she said shaking her heard clear and thinking in reality now “we need to wait til sunrise to hunt tracking it now would just be signing out death certificates” she said. Fatherless was something Lucy had been her whole life she could deal being that way, but she wasn't going to leave her daughter a complete orphan over a man like Kevin. She would do what was in her power to try and get him out of there but she wasn't going in without thinking in through. The best they could do tonight and home they could get into the woods and set up a perimeter the creature wouldn't be able to cross.

He said nothing, merely roll his eyes as she defened her baby daddy's choice in names. It was still a douchebag name, nothing else could be said. Still, he wondered how he could have possibly ended up on that list. Those were nothing but campers, then again, every hunter had their own style and way of doing things. Who was he to be the judge of that? Still, Knox didn't like this, he didn't like the situation. Everything was suppose to be easy when it came to hunting after his first kill with his sister. Yet now he almost felt like he was walking into some sort of trap all of the sudden, or at least, Knox was just having one of those feels that this might not go smoothly.
The other looked lost in thought as well, he could see the gears working her head as she almost seemed to tune him out until he dared to ask the question. The answer that he was met with didn't really surprise Knox, people always got upset with that question which is why he had a hard time believing her, espeacially if she was suggesting that they should go now. Everything about this was bad, and he felt torn on whether to let her go or not. It was her own fucking life, and he had his own to worry about as well, but he didn't want to have that on his concious either. His sister was bad enough.
"I was just asking," Knox replied nonchalantly. But maybe he should make something clear, "I'll do it if you can't," he commented now though, his usual playful tone abscent. But maybe they were just getting ahead of themselves, the guy was probably still alive. He was probably still human unless his evolution theory of monsters proved to be true. Adapt or die, but Knox really wasn't certain if he wanted to believe in it just yet. Granted, he supposed that the world was threaten on a daily basis as well and he just didn't realize it. He looked to his truck now, parked down a ways and supposed that he should probably start waltzing on over to it when Niamh stopped him with one word: no.
An obvious sigh of relief escaped him, "Thank god," he muttered under his breath. Honestly, he wasn't sure on what he would have done. Although he had been quite compliant with the idea on the outside, it had still very much bothered him enternally. Still, it was her show now, and Knox decided he wouldn't do something unless it was necessary. Hunters got weird when their loved ones were involved, and he had seen others go crazy over it and after it. Being killed by a hunter didn't sound too fun either, it would just be like getting shot overseas in a war. Knox nodded thoughtfully, "Glad you agree. I'm staying down the road-" just then, his phone rang and he glanced at the ID, his daughter. Well, didn't she have great timing. He glanced back at Niamh now, "I need to take this...are you going to be okay til tomorrow?"

She stopped and lifted her eyes to look at this man. A perfect stranger telling her he'd step up and do what needed to be done if she couldn't do it. She appreciated the offer, someone having her back but there was something unnerving about the way he'd said it the way she thought about it all. She didn't want to go to worse case scenario if she didn't have to but, despite the nerves she was certain that she could and would do what she needed to do when it came down to the wire. “Thanks” she muttered slightly as she toss her things in the truck.
She heard his sigh of relief when she denied him following her. Why the hell hadn't he just talked her out of it then if he was so apprehensive, what the hell was he doing just going along with her crazy plan, she could have gotten him killed! Clearly she was thinking a little more clearly now, a little more like a hunter.
This was better she could spend the night with Lucy and maybe it would calm her down before she charged into this hunt guns blazing. Maybe her daughter could calm her mind. Was she going to be okay until tomorrow? Was that a joke. “I've lasted this long” she pointed out. She wasn't going to die in one night unless he suspected that she was going to sneak off without him as back up. She had to admit the thought was tempting.
It wasn't that she didn't want the backup, she did, but suddenly this case seemed so personal and she knew that if anything happened to the man before her she would feel horrible guilty and responsible. She nodded and moved toward him. “I'm leaving at dawn” she stated simply. He knew she was staying in the attached place as she'd already told him the room number in case anything happened to her and he needed to notify Lucy. As she went to move past she quickly pressed a kiss on the man's cheek. “Thanks for the drink stranger” she said with a smile taking a few steps away from him backward before she turned and headed toward her own room.
