YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Breakfest time. She was certain it was her favorite meal of the day because it meant scrambled eggs with cheese. Elena was chewing thoughtfully on her eggs as her father sat across the table, pouring over the newspaper. Something about the article appeared to be quite interesting to him. She didn't bother asking though, right now, Elena still thought it was early in the morning. She also had Stanford on her mind. The letter was sitting on a another pile of letters. All discussing the issue of college, yet Elena could not bring herself to open them just yet. She stared at them on the counter, calling her to them. She should open them, any other normal teenage girl would do so.
Her father though, interrupted her, "Elena, that boy you met. His last name was Winchester, right?" A strange question to be asking in the morning while pouring over the newspaper. Elena chewed on her eggs a little bit more and then nodded, "Yes...why?" This sounded a little suspcious already. She couldn't really think of a reason as to why her dad would be asking about J.J. since she had yet to open up her letter from Stanford. The silence grew a little bit longer before her dad glanced up and pushed the newspaper towards her, "A girl named Samantha Winchester from Indiana was found dad. I was wondering if there was any relation." Elena simply stared down at the article now, the girl did kinda sorta look like J.J., like they could be related.
Had he mentioned a sister to her? When talking about his family, he talked in very broad terms. This only meant one thing though, she had to call him. Elena realized that taking her time to eat her scrambled eggs just didn't seem very logical now. Quickly, she wolfed them down, "Dad, I need to go call him. Don't eat all the bacon." Elena left her plate at the table, leaving behind a very puzzled father as she climbed the stairs up to her room and shutting the door behind her. The death of the Winchester girl seemed a little odd, and it reminded her of the story that her father had fed her about her own mother. Cover up. Elena knew she shouldn't be throwing conspiracy theories though about other people's families. Looking to her cork board, Elena freed his number from it and grabbed her cellphone. Sitting in front of her computer, she pulled up the article again via google before dialing his number and hitting call. Hopefully, despite his seemingly usual moody outlook, he would still pick up the phone for her.

Ω J.J. Winchester Fight for all YOU know
When your BACKS against the wall
Stand AGAINST the liars
J.J. couldn’t really believe it. He had been living in a high for a short little bit because of his letter. Well, really it was the letter. As in the letter to Stanford. Ironically enough, he had been a little terrified of opening it, just because the letter in question appeared to be awfully skinny to be an acceptance letter. Sooner or later though, his needing to know quickly got the best of him and he ripped it open to reveal the answer and just like that, light dropped down on him and he could hear a chorus of angels singing hallelujah. He, John Atticus Winchester Jr, was going to Stanford University in the fall of 2032. For once in his life, the young male had felt compelled to share this news with his parents but was when tragedy had struck when the policemen from Missouri called up saying that their daughter was dead. The world seemed to have stopped and his house became the end. So that had been his life, getting into Stanford only to find out that his sister was dead. Although, even now, he was in some denial about it. Sammi could be stupid, but she wasn’t dumb, and the fact that no body was ever found left him in a questioning mood.
She had gone. She wasn’t dead as far as he was concerned, and had been cruising along the case. Illegally of course, but how else was he going to find out anything? His parents had emotionally checked out as far as he was concerned and J.J. wasn’t feeling the bonding mood at this very moment. Actually, when he thought about it, he was never in a bonding mood other than during his Stanford visit, and of course, that was with one girl. A sigh escaped him, wondering when his life had gotten so complicated all of the sudden. All what he wanted to do was get the hell out of Indiana and never come back. With his family around, the only thing that J.J. saw was the aftermath of the hunter life, and occasionally the real one when Ben magically decided to pop by and sleep on the couch. He knew that he should just let it go, after all, his sister hogged the bathroom way more than he cared to remember making stupid faces in the mirror. In fact, she did a lot of things that annoyed him to the ends of the world, but in the end, she was still his sister, and he had to do something about it. Her life sort of hit the fan after she had those screaming babies.
Cerulean eyes glanced over the computer screen again, watching as new evidence surfaced but all what he figured was that it was going to let him know that she wasn’t dead. As far as tracking her down, well, that was going to prove to be the major problem. People can change their names and appearances…maybe not habits. A sigh escaped J.J. uncertain of what he was even doing with himself right now as he cracked a redbull open. He wanted to know what was going on with his sister, he needed to find out the answer, but at the same time, obsessing over it wasn’t the answer, and he still needed to get to Stanford. His phone went off, startling him from his thoughts as he glanced at his cell now, scooting his chair to it and eyed the caller ID: Elena Stryder. Holy shit, he sat up quickly now, staring at the phone as it blared one of the latest screamo songs. Well, his phone wasn’t going to answer itself, he should probably do that. Picking up the phone now, he hit the familiar answer key and rested it against his cheek and shoulder now as he glanced back over at the computer screen, “Elena?” The last time they spoke was at school, and he never quite recovered from it.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP She could not help but to wonder if this had been a bad idea, but then Elena thought the idea merely foolish. There were no bad ideas, there were just failed attempts that could always be reworked into a better idea. She did believe however, the more the phone kept on ringing that she didn't believe that J.J. was going to pick up. She thought it quite odd since she really did believe that they had quite the wonderful conversation at Stanford, even if it had required her pulling his teeth to do so all because she ran into him while texting. It would probably go over to voice mail any second, causing Elena to start to rough draft a message in her head to leave for him when it happened: J.J. picked up though his voice sounded rather confused.
In fact, he sounded so confused that he might have thought himself in the twilight zone or that ancient show that her father told her about, apparently his parents had been really hooked on such things, as well as her mother, "J.J.!" Elena exclaimed, "I'm glad you picked up, I almost thought you weren't going to." She was the least frightening person ever, or at least, when she was minus her taser. She supposed that she should get right to the point though instead of going around in fluffy circles to try and dig something out of him. It just didn't seem fair, plus Elena thought that at Stanford, they had been quite straightforward with each other as well.
"Listen," she stated now, "I hope I'm not bothering you but my dad was reading the paper this morning and we saw a news article about a girl named Samantha Winchester. Is she related to you? Or more importantly, are you okay?" Elena knew how it felt like to loose someone you loved, well, if this was someone he loved. She might be just jumping to conclusions, but it had been awfully hard not to do when the facts were just right there in the face. She could be completely out of line though, she had only met the boy once but she thought them friends already without any problems, or at least, any real problems.

Ω J.J. Winchester Fight for all YOU know
When your BACKS against the wall
Stand AGAINST the liars
He still couldn’t really decide if this was real or not, maybe it was just a dream since he still couldn’t tell them apart. J.J. just couldn’t see why Elena would call him. Sure, they met at a college visit and she managed to get him to hold a conversation, but that had been that. They had exchanged numbers, but why call now? Unless, she got in as well. Well, at least there was something to bright the mood up just a little, hopefully, “J.J!” Elena’s voice caused the slightest of smiles, she sounded as crazily happy as the first time they met, “I’m glad you picked up, I almost thought you weren’t going to.” Wow, he must have really let his phone ring then, but come on, mild panic attack nearly happened, although, he wasn’t about to let her in on that little secret, “Sorry, I was distracted by something on my screen. I tend to zone out when I’m on the computer.” And that technically wasn’t a lie; it was a very true fact about him as well as the screamo music that played out in the background.
Before he could even ask her though as to why she was calling him out of the blue, Elena beat him to the punch, “Listen, I hope I’m not bothering you but my dad was reading the paper this morning,” oh god, J.J. found himself certain now that he knew where this was going, “And we saw a news article about a girl named Samantha Winchester. Is she related to you? Or more importantly, are you okay?” He didn’t know what to really say, in fact, he was a little dumbfounded that the Stryders picked up on something like that. Although, according to Elena, they had their own misery experience with her mother. Regardless, that didn’t help him decide on what to say so J.J. just remained silent as he tried to collect his thoughts around his situation, and the fact that somebody called up to ask if he was okay, like they cared for him and his family even though they only met one time. In fact, neither of them have met each other’s parents. Yet, she acted as if they have known each other for all of their lives.
“Elena…I don’t think she’s dead,” he replied now, glancing to his computer screen and the police files up on it. Okay, she was probably going to call him crazy on that, but he needed to tell someone and J.J. didn’t feel like talking to his cousin about and his parents wouldn’t believe him. Hell, they’d probably send him to a shrink or something if he opened up with that conversation at the quiet dinner table. Why he thought he could trust Elena though, he wasn’t even sure he had an answer to that. J.J. would call it a hunch, and he was hoping that he was right. He could do things on his own no problem, but first he just had to make sure that he wasn’t making this whole thing up , “I mean, they didn't find her kids, and sure, there was a body but it was beyond recognition. They have DNA but that doesn't mean anything. I'm willing to bet if they ran that person's dental records, it'd come back to somebody else. Technically, they should be doing that now.” Wow, he did sounded like he needed a shrink, “Sorry. I shouldn’t be telling you all of this…I’m fine, really. It’s my parents who aren’t. They’re like, on an emotional lockdown. It’s like living with depressed zombies.”

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Elena felt as if there had been a very long pause at the end of the line, just like there had been when she had been waiting for the phone to pick up. People could be very different when you were not confronting them in person she decided. If he is to act like this at school (although she still had no clue if they were attending the same school) then she may just have to threaten to taze him so he'd come hang out with her and do actual social things. But then he offered a reasonable explanation, or reasonable by her fair. She wondered what could possibly be on his computer that held such an interest, but she shouldn't pry since well, she is prying enough as it is, "Oh, do not worry about it. We all get distracted. Clearly I know this the best," she commented now, referring back to how they first even met.
There was a rather long pause though after her question and she felt for certain that she messed something up already. Elena could just be over dramatic though, her father said that a lot about her though she didn't possibly know why. Elena thought that now maybe she should just back peddle, say something about her overactive imagination which she did have some times but then J.J. spoke and she felt herself go awkwardly quiet. He didn't think that she was dead? She leaned back in her chair now, glancing to the wall and it made her wonder what really had been up on his computer screen now, "You don't think she's dead?" Well, he had just said that, and she was repeating herself, but for some reason Elena thought saying it out loud might make it more understandable to her.
She couldn't call him crazy though since she didn't believe that her mother just died from a car crash. She suggested foul play and it would be wrong of her to doubt her new friend. Besides, J.J. is smart, he'd have an explanation to this. Case wise, it sounded logical with the teeth, maybe, but Elena would be kidding herself to say that she knew anything about dead people, "No, it's fine! You can tell me whatever you want. That's why I'm calling anyways." she reminded him now and it sounded like he had needed someone to talk to with the state of his parents, "I'm sorry to hear about your parents though. I know that feeling fully well...HEY. Does this mean we're like the Scooby Doo gang? Mystery Inc and everything with solving your sister's disappearance?"

Ω J.J. Winchester Fight for all YOU know
When your BACKS against the wall
Stand AGAINST the liars
He still couldn’t help but to feel awkward about this whole phone call, but in a different way than usual. It’s not like he didn’t want to talk to Elena, because he did actually want to talk to another human being for once in his life, it was just…maybe the phone? J.J. couldn’t explain it, though he couldn’t seem to explain a lot of things right now at that very moment other than the fact that he convinced himself that his sister wasn’t dead. Although, the young man wasn’t even sure of where to go from there. Since his sister did this, since ‘if’ wasn’t an idea to him, then why? Some more supernatural things out to get her? Something else like that boyfriend of hers that nearly killed their father in their own house? What? For once, J.J. found himself wishing that maybe he should have attempted to be a normal human and talk to her a little more. “Oh, do not worry about it. We all get distracted. Clearly I know this the best,” Elena said on the other line.
The smallest of smiles cracked on his lips now and something of a laugh left his lips, “Yeah…I think I’m still bruised from that encounter,” he replied back now, the usual hint of sarcasm in his voice. The small talk was disappearing now that he had dropped that bomb on her, and J.J. was beginning to think that maybe it hadn’t been the brightest thing to do. After all, this was just a girl who had an almost normal life other than the fact that her mom is dead. J.J. didn’t want to drag her into anything because well, he had been resistant his whole life. Still was actually, he just wanted to make sure that his sister was alive and fine since, well, his parents were zombies now. And he only had that limited time now with college and sweet freedom just around the corner. He found himself certain that Stanford is calling his name. Well, until Elena spoke, “You don’t think she’s dead?” Well…shit, he probably had just ruined any sort of sanity that she might thought he have. Note to self: don’t bring up nightmares because unfortunately, even after his run in with ‘not my cousin’ Bobbi, he still couldn’t sleep.
Once again, there seemed to be that long, silent, awkward pause and J.J. quickly found his mind racing to try and come up with something to say. Though, as life would have it, he found himself hitting a black wall which seemed almost unnatural because he is usually the king of comebacks. When he did manage something though, Elena seemed almost apologetic, “No, it's fine! You can tell me whatever you want. That's why I'm calling anyways." And just like that, J.J. found himself a little stumped again by her words and he didn’t know what to say. Soon, he leaned back in his swivel chair as far as it allowed him, his cerulean eyes looking towards the screen once again with the files and data and then she caught him a little off guard once again, “I'm sorry to hear about your parents though. I know that feeling fully well...HEY. Does this mean we're like the Scooby Doo gang? Mystery Inc and everything with solving your sister's disappearance?" What the hell did he just get her into? He hadn’t even been trying, he had just wanted to tell somebody unless this had been subconsciously what he wanted, “No Elena, you can’t help me. It’s probably dangerous or something along the lines of that. Thanks for being my….whatever, no Scooby Doo mysteries.” Funny, all the times that his family and other people had called him a dick, it never registered until now.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP His comment about still having a bruise nearly made her grimace, and that was saying something since Elena didn't fully wish to be remembered as that girl who bruised him. She didn't know why though, when it came to people she truly didn't care which only made her wonder why on earth she should even be caring now. Never. Elena thought herself merely having a minor identity crisis for two seconds, "I would swear that it would never happen again but I cannot make you any promises," Elena said now, leaning back in her chair, "You should probably put some ice on that though if it still hurts." With the sarcasm in J.J.'s voice, Elena found it quite hard to believe that it is truly the case. Elena also knew that there were far more important things to discuss.
His sister is the important thing right now. He held onto a rather long pause with her now, Elena must work on her delivery then because she didn't want to be pushed away. J.J. is a potential friend. She would just consider him a friend right off the bat, her way at least, but she wasn't even sure what he thought of her. It had to be good though since he was sharing this information with her. Elena wouldn't forget though that it was her who called him in the first place. Despite the silence, Elena still thought they were good until the Scooby Doo gang was brought up and he promptly told her that she couldn't help him. Elena went silent this time around, trying to think of something reasonable to say to him. She looked to a photograph of her mother before sitting up in her chair.
"J.J." she started now, "You can't do this alone." People always say they can do things alone but they always need help." Elena wasn't always sure of this entirely but it usually seemed to be a very good fact. She couldn't understand why either he would tell her this and then tell her that she couldn't help. Elena always just wanted to help and in a crisis like this, she would think that she could be helpful anyways. She thought back to Stanford for a moment before asking, "Does this have to do with your...family business? Is this why I can't help you?"

Ω J.J. Winchester Fight for all YOU know
When your BACKS against the wall
Stand AGAINST the liars
He could not help but to think that he might have just made the conversation a little awkward again. J.J. would have apologize and said that he was rusty on conversational skills but that would be a lie, cause it would have been implying that he had some before. So, typical J.J. said nothing but sat in silence, staring at his computer as if it held all the answers for him when it came to becoming social with a girl on the phone, but it didn’t. The computer tended to be the excuse for not being social at all, “I would swear that it would never happen again but I cannot make you any promises,” Elena chimed now, breaking the ice between them, “You should probably put some ice on that though if it still hurts.” A smile actually tugged at his lips again, good thing they were over the phone so that she couldn’t see it though, “I will.”
But all play came to an end, and they were in the serious leg of their conversation. Somehow, that always seemed to happen and he didn’t know why. J.J. didn’t want to drag her into anything. Hell, he could have lied to her and said that the paper wasn’t even his sister at all. He wasn’t even sure as to what had gone through his head in that very moment where he honestly felt the need to share with her everything about this when it wasn’t her place, it wasn’t her life. After all, he had just gotten his acceptance letter into Stanford; this wasn’t going to be his life much longer either and honestly, he couldn’t wait. But J.J. had to deal with this first. He wasn’t even sure why though since he liked to believe that this was mostly his sister’s own fault for a number of reasons. Although, if he dared brought that up to his parents, they might shoot him on the spot. His parents were so weird sometimes, J.J. couldn’t even tell between Ben and Sammi, which one was their coveted favorite.
J.J. didn’t grant himself a lot of time to put some serious thought into it though because Elena started speaking now, “You can’t do this alone. People always say they can do things alone but they can’t.” Honestly, he would like to beg to differ on that one. There were plenty of things that J.J. had done on his own in his life, hell, his life functioned on being alone. He never wanted help from his family or friends, not that he had any of the latter, but still, “Does this have to do with your family business? Is this why I can’t help you?” Well, the teenager would have been lying to say that he had seen that question coming. It was a little startling that she put that together so fast, must be going into law, no wonder she was looking at Stanford. What the hell was he even suppose to say to that? J.J. allowed himself to sink into silence, “I…yeah. It is. Besides, this isn’t your problem. And for all I know, this is just a wild chase and I’m making shit up because I want to believe that she’s alive. Not to mention, I can’t ask for your help. You have school to worry about. Fuck, I have school to worry about since I actually want to escape this place.”

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Elena didn't quite care if things had gotten a little awkward, she was quite used to these things happening at school. For as normal as he was, people still didn't quite seem to get her. Like there was something there that didn't click, maybe it was the whole murdered mother thing. That or her curious choice in conversational starters sometimes, but it never quite bothered her. She could handle awkward, in fact, she could handle this situation. He answered her in one short phrase and Elena felt like she could actually hear his physical reaction as well, "J.J. are you smiling? And to think, I'm not there to witness it." He had smiled with her before though, at Stanford, she was certain of it. It still made her smile herself though, who would have thought that a random incident such as Stanford could end up in friends.
His tone now still seemed rather serious though as the real conversation came into play. Elena didn't know quite what to think of it. She also felt like she could relate though at the same time. The world is quite a curious place as well. Elena knew that people vanished all the time and people ended up dead of natural or murderous causes all the time. Then, she also knew that there were also strange deaths that just couldn't be explain. People said aliens, Elena didn't know if she followed that theory but there were other things, things that her mother had covered in her classes at the university. People usually disappear because of two things: one, they were forced to go, or two, they disappeared themselves because they were running from something. Elena knew there was a third option, but that wasn't really the case, or so J.J. seemed convinced.
He seemed quiet on the other end for a while, Elena nearly convinced herself that she had said the wrong thing. She knew she didn't but there was this whole thing about being 'too soon' and such. It's not like they were truly friends, they just exchanged numbers and chit chatted, but Elena felt like they were going to be friends, at school. She will get him to socialize as well, but that really wasn't the issue. The issue was his sister and family business and that became more clear as the silence grew before he spoke. She felt herself bit down on her lip, trying to think of something to say as he started going off, it was very conflicting to a degree, "We're going to be friends so I can help you...I just don't know how." He was right though, they did have school to worry about, "Just...try and find her without leaving the house. If she's alive, there may be a reason she doesn't want to be found and is keeping your family safe. Like, a mob hit or something." This indeed had to be one of the most craziest and serious conversations she had ever had.
