Rory sat alone in the diner her history text book open as she tried to finish her required homework for the night. It was stupid really but her father insisted she stay in school, what good it was going to be to her as a hunter she would never know and well, school just sucked in general. But, to avoid an argument on the phone with the man who was never home, or better yet a lecture from her sister who was ALWAYS home, she had gone to the one place she was assured no one would bother her to get it done.
As she answered the third question she could feel her annoyance growing with the person sitting behind her. She didn't know if their breathing was actually as loud as it seemed to be or if it was just so quiet in the diner that it was amplified and seemingly the only thing she could concentrate on in that moment. She closed her blue eyes and squeezed them shut trying to drown out the noise but it was so distinct, in, out, in out. It wasn't calming it was annoying, and getting louder and louder.
"Could you breathe any louder?" she asked turning her attention then on the culprit, okay maybe she was extra tense lately, her sister wasn't around as much as she usually was and though it was easy to pretend she didn't care, the anxiety of being alone was starting to creep up on her. She didn't have a mother, she never had and Solaris was the closest thing she had to a parent, especially since their dad never seemed to be around.
With her gone now and her lack of friend making skills, Rory was being to realise just how alone she was in the world and it was really beginning to frighten her. It was probably moments like this where she put her angry wall up that was really keeping people away, but maybe if people were so horrible to her than she wouldn't be so horrible to them.
Always being the new kid had taken its toll and it didn't help when you had a trademark trait to make fun of. Her hair was like a big flag everyone loved a good ginger joke, she was almost certain she'd heard every single one in the book, and she wasn't pretty, not classically at least, not like her sister, she was just.... Rory but no one cared enough to know.
