The plane taxied into the runway as Max watched out of the small window next to him, for the first realizing just how nervous he was to be back home. It hadn't been so long since he was gone really, but it felt like a lifetime after distancing himself from the roller coaster his life had become. He had tried to tell himself that he hadn't been running, that no one needed or wanted him there any longer, but deep down he had felt like a failure during his entire stay abroad. At least he had done some good in Europe, he had managed to help a few German hunters solve some difficult cases and had made some connections in England that would be valuable should he ever need to call on them.
He continued to stare out of the window as the plane emptied around him, stalling until the stewardess came up and asked him to step out, to which he sighed and shuffled out into the airport, wondering all the while if he should have just stayed away for good. He picked up his bag at the baggage claim and threw it over his shoulder as he walked out to the airport taxis, his mind going over all the possible reactions his family would have to seeing him again, all the while trying not to think of how the one who mattered most would react, Bobbi Winchester.
The look on her face when he revealed he had known about her uncle and cousins for months without telling her still made his chest constrict when he brought forth the memory, he doubted she would ever forgive him and that thought was more painful than any of the things his brother and parents had hidden from him their entire lives. He made a decision as he got in the back of one of the airport taxis and gave them his childhood address, he would make this about him and not about them for once, he would enjoy seeing them again while he could and if they rejected him, he would just leave and start over again. Easy right?
Max kept his mind free of thoughts as they drove to his house, not letting himself consider the possibility he wasn't wanted, it wouldn't do any good until he was faced with it. When they finally pulled up he climbed out on auto-pilot, handing the driver some money and pulling his bag from the trunk, and then watched the yellow cab drive away, leaving him to his fate. Against his better judgment he found his eyes straying from his own home to the one next door, wondering if she were there and if she would ever speak to him again, and if he even deserved it.
