She wasn't sure as to what she had been thinking when she had taken the car. Maybe she just hadn't been thinking at all, but there had been something that she wanted to check out. It seemed rather foolish the more she thought about it. The newspapers had attracted her though, with the news that people had been vanishing into thin air in Oxford. But it didn't even matter because she wasn't going to get there when she was stuck on the side of the road. Her dad's car had died, or well, something had happened to it. Smoke was coming out of the engine, and this was one thing that her father never taught her: cars. Solaris just stared at it, nerves starting to rise every minute she glanced at the time on her cellphone.
Being eighteen usually meant that everything was a big 'fuck you' to your parents, yet Solaris couldn't think on that level when it came to her farther. She tried too hard to be a good girl, to be the support in their broken family ever since their mother had died. Worst of all though, she was beginning to realize that she didn't often see Leo Strauss as a father, yet she still felt the need to please him, or stay on his good side. Taking his car out though, was not going to help either one of those aspirations. Especially since he had been unaware of this whole little adventure she decided to go on. The thought made her sigh, as she pushed the door open and got out.
Walking around the car, she popped the hood and just stared, backing up as hot steam came up to hit her in the face. Crossing her arms, she glanced around wearily now. There were few cars that seemed to be passing through this time and the ones that did pass seemed to do nothing but leave her alone. Solaris supposed that she should probably be thankful for that, especially when she was near a town were the people were vanishing. Of course, the paper thought it was a serial killer, but she knew better than to assume such things.
Still, a young girl like her shouldn't be alone on the side of the road, regardless of such things. She wasn't strong, in fact, she was certain that her sixteen year old sister was stronger than her. Rory. Maybe she should call Rory. Solaris looked down at her cellphone, staring at her contacts. No, she couldn't do that, how would her sister even get here? Even more importantly, what if their father found out? The thought made her snap her phone and pocketed it now as she walked to the trunk. Opening it up, she grabbed one of the handguns. Making sure it was loaded, and that the safety was one, Solaris pulled the guy thing and slid it into the back of her jeans, having it rest against her lower back before pulling her leather jacket over it.
Honestly, she preferred her cross bow more than anything, but she couldn't exactly be sitting along the side of the road with that. Not to mention, it was a little harder to hide. Shutting the trunk shut now, she leaned her hip and weight against it, glancing out again as she crossed her arms over her chest again. She still felt uncomfortable about waiting around, but she didn't see what choice she had. Leaving behind her father's car was out of the question, especially when it was packing guns and ammo. Her mind was wandering to her phone again as she pulled it out, staring at it as if she were willing it to give her the answer on what to do.
